Ultrasound-Guided Prolotherapy for Lumbar Radiculopathy

73-Year-Old FemaleA businesswoman frequently traveling between countries, often residing in the United States.

On the first weekend after the Lunar New Year in 2025 (February 😎, she walked in slowly while supporting her lower back.

Chief Complaint:

* Lower back pain, especially right side

* Numbness in the right leg

* Almost unable to bend forward, moving only with great difficulty

Hospital Examination:

* 01/21 X-ray: Scoliosis, spondylolisthesis, spinal stenosis

* 02/04 Nerve Conduction Study:

    * Right L5 radiculopathy without active denervation

After assessing her condition and providing an explanation, we proceeded ultrasound-guided prolotherapy injection during her initial visit.

* Immediate Response: Pain relief and significantly improved mobility, allowing her to bend forward.

* Second Week (Second Injection): Minimal pain and numbness, walking returned to normal.

* Patient's Confidence Boosted: She wished to address all her musculoskeletal issues (cervical spine, lumbar spine, shoulders, and knees) while staying in Taiwan.

Subsequent Treatments:

* Third Week: PRP treatment for bilateral knee osteoarthritis

* Fourth Week: Examination of bilateral shoulder rotator cuff tears, followed by prolotherapy injection for the right shoulder and PRP injection for the lumbar spine.

* Ongoing Plan: Continued follow-up and treatment until her departure in April.

Conclusion:For spinal disorders with nerve compression symptoms, precise ultrasound-guided prolotherapy and PRP treatmentcan rapidly relieve pain and restore mobility, significantly improving the patient's quality of life.

We hope that successful cases like this will help more patients understand that appropriate interventional treatments can lead to remarkable improvements. We encourage individuals with similar conditions to seek professional evaluation and treatment to regain their health and quality of life as soon as possible.
