Q: Why erectile dysfunction matters?

A: Because erectile dysfunction is a critical warning sign for overall health!

As mentioned earlier in https://uroprolo.blogspot.com/2023/03/patient-faq-can-antihypertensive.html, erectile dysfunction (ED) is often an early indicator of cardiovascular issues due to the narrow diameter of the arteries in the male penis.

Here are some relevant statistics:

1.    Two-thirds of coronary artery disease (CAD) patients experience ED before CAD symptoms.

2.    The time interval from ED to CAD symptoms is typically 2-3 years.

3.    The time interval from ED to cardiovascular events (heart attacks, strokes) is usually 3-5 years.

Among the population at risk for coronary artery disease:

1.    Men with moderate to severe ED have a 65% higher relative risk of developing coronary artery disease within 10 years compared to normal men (13.2% vs. 8.0%, p < 0.001).

Among the population at risk for stroke:

Men with moderate to severe ED have a 43% increased relative risk of experiencing a stroke within 10 years compared to those without ED (13.3% vs. 9.3%, p = 0.041).

In conclusion, moderate to severe ED is significantly associated with an increased risk of developing coronary artery disease or experiencing a stroke within a 10-year timeframe.

Therefore, men with erectile dysfunction are strongly advised to undergo comprehensive medical monitoring, including cardiovascular assessment, management of risk factors, and lifestyle changes.
